We began spring break with a trip to Douglas Lake in East Tennessee for a Bassmaster National High School Open. My son Will fished against 300 of the top high school anglers in the country as a freshman and narrowly missed the cut to make nationals. It seems like all those hours on the lake are paying off! It was a great father-son activity, and now it’s his passion. I love seeing him compete with kids from high schools all across the nation, and I can’t wait to see where fishing takes him.
While my son was fishing, my daughter Avery and I were able to visit Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, where we enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Titanic Museum. Nature in Tennessee has always taken my breath away, and the Great Smoky Mountains have some of the most unbelievable views in the entire state. Avery and I had a great time hiking through the mountains and experiencing the plants, animals and terrain. It was then contrasted by the manmade marvel that is the Titanic Museum where we learned all about the ship, its history, its design, its passengers and more!
From there, we traveled to my childhood hometown of Houston, Texas, for RODEOHOUSTON, a 20-day rodeo with millions of dollars in rewards. The best in bull riding, steer wrestling, roping and more come together to compete, and we were there to witness it firsthand. While in Houston, we also went to a carnival, a Houston Rockets game, a Zac Brown Band concert and a Jonas Brothers concert.
In two weeks, we will travel to Guntersville, Alabama, for the Major League Fishing High School National Open on Lake Guntersville. I hope to see my son keep growing in the sport he loves! I am also excited to coach a high school developmental team in the Germantown Baseball League. Baseball is of my greatest passions, so getting to watch younger players continue to improve and develop their talent should be fun. So many great things await us, and while the business leaves little time for rest, we can’t wait for what’s next!
